The Liberals, NDP and the Bloc tried to over throw the current leadership of Stephen Harper with a “Coalition Government”. (For more information about the Federal Government Fiasco, please read my previous article – “Coalition Government?!”) In early December the Governor General, Michelle Jean suspended Parliament until January 26, which is when the Harper Government will present the federal budget. The liberals and NDP are still preparing to “topple“ the government by insisting on a confidence vote even before the proposed budget can be heard. After Parliament was suspended, Stephane Dion stepped down from his role as Liberal Leader, the new Liberal Leader is Michael Ignatieff. Since the suspension of Parliament, the Conservative Government has been busy working on the federal budget. Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that it “will be one of the biggest budgets in a long time, it will be a comprehensive budget to deal with a range of economic – not just economic problems and challenges – but also some economic opportunities.” The government is going to do whatever is necessary to deal with the economic situation. The Liberal Leader, Michael Ignatieff has indicated that if the federal budget is not in the best interest of all Canadians, he is still prepared to vote against the Conservative Government and form a Coalition Government with the NDP. My concern with the Liberal Government is that they say that they are looking out for the best interests of all Canadians but have proven in the past that when they say all Canadians, they really mean central and eastern Canadians, big corporations and themselves. We have a few short weeks to wait before we see the specifics of the proposed budget. If all goes well, the Liberals and NDP will be satisfied with the budget and not insist on the confidence vote. We really need our Government to be focused on the needs of Canada overall, we don’t need them focused campaigning, especially in this global economic situation.
