Innisfail Celebrates the Olympic Torch

On January 16th, Innisfail celebrated as the Olympic Torch passed through town.  There were over 1200 people lined up along the street at 7:25 in the morning.

Many felt that it was an important or once in a lifetime event - too important to miss. The celebrations began with speeches from various delegates from the area as well as a local kayaker who is planning on attending the 2012 Summer Olympics.  As the flame made it's way through town, the excitement and cheers engulfed the community.

As the torch continued on it's journey down the road, the town hosted a free pancake breakfast at the Legion.  There were more than 1000 people who enjoyed the wonderful local entertainment and the breakfast.

Four of the torch bearers were on hand at the pancake breakfast to share their experience and the torch with everyone.  They took the time to have their pictures taken with anyone asked.  Many were thrilled at the chance to hold the torch.

It was an outstanding celebration!  Thank you Innisfail and all those who participated.
