Jack Daines Honoured as Rodeo Builder On Friday May 29, 2009, Jack Daines was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as Rodeo Builder. Jack's lengthy career in rodeo began when he started riding steers at just 12 years old. In 1956 & 1957 he won the Canadian Novice Saddle Bronc title. He retired from competing around 1970 and turned his focus to announcing, producing and promoting the sport of rodeo. In 1961, Jack built the Daines Rodeo grounds which became home to the Innisfail Little Britches Rodeo for 25 years and then Innisfail Professional Rodeo. The Daines Rodeo Grounds also features the annual Bucking Horse Sale. Jack played key roles in starting and developing the Red Deer Silver Buckle Rodeo and the Albertra Professional Rodeo Circuit. Jack's rodeo resume also includes teaching Boy's Steer Riding for the Calgary Stampede, announcing at the CFR (Canadian Finals Rodeo), creating Mutton Bustin' (sheep riding for young boys & girls, which is now featured at most North American rodeos). Through the years Jack has received numerous awards and acknowledgements such as the Jimmy Brown Memorial Award, a trophy from the Canadian Cutting Horse Association, Committee Man of the Year Award, Canadian Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame Inductee, Distinguished Service Award from the Auctioneers Association of Alberta and Honourary Kinsman for his contributions to Central Alberta 4-H. The Daines family has a long history in Innisfail and the sport of rodeo. Jack Daines is one of the most recognized names in rodeo and the cattle industry.
