Waste Water Line

Just read this - sounds like great news…

“The province has approved $32 million toward the first phase of a wastewater line for central Alberta.

Innisfail Mayor Ken Graham said the South Red Deer Regional Wastewater Commission recently got confirmation from Transportation Minister Luke Ouellette that the province would back construction of a wastewater line from Innisfail to Springbrook.

That line ties into an existing line that connects the area to Red Deer’s wastewater treatment plant. Graham said the funding was expected but he was glad to get official word.

The first section of pipeline is expected to be completed next year.

The entire project is expected to cost $400 million and includes three lines - one south to Olds, another north to the Lacombe area, and west to Sylvan Lake. (The Canadian Press, Red Deer Advocate, ccg)”

First Snow - and with it thoughts of hitting the slopes

The first snow has hit Innisfail this past weekend.  And more came Monday.  Not huge amounts, but it may stay around if the weather forecast continues to change.  Originally I thought it would all be gone by Tuesday at the latest as it was supposed to hit highs of 10-14 degrees celsius.  But that got revised to only 3-4 degrees celsius so not a lot of melting happening.  But by Friday it may be up to 6-7 so it may melt then.

With the snow it got me wondering about what the mountain conditions are doing. Sunshine has a base of 72 cm and has had 19 centimetres of new snow in the past 2 days.  It has 5 of the 12 lifts open for business.  Lake Louise has had 15 cm recently and has 2 of its lifts in operations.  So the season has begun.  I know my boys are very anxious to get out and snow boarding this winter.

One thing about having boys snowboarding is having to get geared up.  Boards, bindings, boots, and of course the brand name snowboarding jackets to look very cool on the hill.  I try to find deals, buy off season, etc but certain items are hard to get.  Especially with boots - never know what size they will be when the time comes - they grow so fast.

I would like to try to actively get the buy and sell area going and I think skiing and snowboarding gear may be just the ticket.  So if you have anything to sell - items you are not using, boots or boards your kids have grown out of - list them on our Innisfail Online Buy and Sell classified ad section.

Another thing about Innisfail

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom Lindl today.  He teaches guitar here in Innisfail.

My youngest son joined the band this year playing Bass Guitar.  It was a struggle to learn on the fly so we decided to get him some private lessons.

Tom had an add in the paper looking for students and we phoned him up.  We managed to snag the last spot for lessons.

Tom has a very nice studio in his top floor loft in a very convenient location near the school.  My son is eager to get started learning all he can from Tom.

Innisfail Library Film Circuit

I help with the library board - a library trustee they call it.

Part of my volunteer duties include working the the newly formed Innisfail Library Film Circuit.  We have partnered with the Century theatre to show movies that we get from the Toronto International Film Festival Group.

Every second Sunday we bring in a film and show it to the residents of Innisfail.  This coming Sunday - November 8 - we are showing AMAL.  This sounds like a very good movie.

Amal is about a rickshaw tax driver that has a good heart.  He manages to meet an eccentric millionaire and his life changes forever.  A very inspiring movie.

It will be showing at 7:30 PM at the Century theater - tickets at the door.

Construction continues around Innisfail.

At the South end of town they have finished up the new service road and entry into town.  The paving was done ealier this week and lines painted today.

At the north entrance work is still continueing.  At times it is a mess to try and get through all the construction vehicles.  But the good thing is that soon it will be done and the entrance onto highway 2 will be much safer.

Lot is happening in and around Innisfail lately.

Of course I mentioned that hockey has started - so that the Innisfail Arena is a happening place.

As well football is well underway.  The Innisfail PeeWee Football team is undefeated so far.  They have been having a great season under the expert coaching of Kent Lorenz.  They were in Olds yesterday and won 15-0.  After that the boys were treated to Pizza back in Innisfail.  There next game is Saturday where they will meet Red Deer right here in Innisfail.

There are many building construction projects underway around town.  The old Jackson’s Pharmacy building is being renovated to hold a Sporting goods store.  The Henday mall is getting a complete facelift. And some work is being done at the storage facitily across from the arena.

Also road construction is still happening on both the east and west sides of Innisfail.  They are updating the main entrance to Innisfail from the QEII highway.

The rink is an active place again!

For the last week the minor hockey association has been running conditioning camps and double AA tryouts.

My two boys are happy to be back on skates.  They are having fun bumping and grinding and chasing the puck.

The last 3-4 days the tryouts have been going well.  By Saturday they should be almost winding up, with inter-squad games being played on Saturday.

I will try to slip down and take a few pics of the action.
