ABP monitors losses due to COOL

The Alberta Beef Producers have been monitoring how COOL has been affecting the beef markets since it was implemented late last year.

The ABP used a base line of average prices for the past three years on 550 pound feeders and 850 pound feeders.  They found that the average priced dropped by approximately $30 per head during the last quarter of 2008 and during the first quarter of 2009 the average price had dropped by approximately $22 per head for the 550 pound feeders.  For the 850 pound feeders, the average price dropped by approximately $17 per head during the last quarter of 2008 and $51 per head during the first quarter of 2009.

It is quite obvious that COOL is having a negative impact on Alberta's Beef Industry.
